🤖 A Magic Trick Tests The Hand

Good Morning, Roboticists!
Every new robot expands the map of places where humans are no longer the default worker.
A Magic Trick Tests The Hand

TL;DR: LinkerBot's 730-gram LinkerHand O30 turned card changes, a toy-car reveal and a coin disappearance into a dexterity demo. Its 20 independently controlled active joints accept commands at up to 500 Hz; the company claims +/-0.20 mm repeatability and a 30-kilogram maximum load. The design is meant for precise industrial manipulation on factory floors, rather than magic alone. Read more →
Japan's Humanoid Bet Takes Its Time

TL;DR: Kawasaki Heavy Industries plans to put Noetra's physical-AI platform inside its Kaleido humanoid as early as 2030, beginning with remote-assisted factory patrols and parts transport. The company says autonomy will expand gradually as the software matures, with assembly work later. It is pitching automotive and semiconductor customers, but no deployment contracts have been disclosed yet. Read more →
Panasonic Thinks Batteries Can Open Doors

TL;DR: Panasonic Holdings says it aims to begin producing humanoid robots in 2029, targeting factory lines and warehouses first. Chief AI officer Akira Sakakibara argues the group's battery-safety experience could matter in a market wary of fires. A new AI and robotics R&D division opened October 1, although Panasonic has shown neither a machine nor concrete technical results. Read more →
Takeaway Delivery Rolls Onto Britain's Sidewalks

TL;DR: Deliveroo and Coco Robotics will launch sidewalk delivery in Canary Wharf this October under an exclusive UK partnership, then target Milton Keynes, Leeds, Stockton-on-Tees and Nottingham. The fully electric robots travel at walking speed, navigating with onboard sensors, cameras and edge AI rather than cloud connectivity. Deliveroo says riders will still make most deliveries as the rollout grows. Read more →
Factory Robots Get A Unicorn Moment

TL;DR: RobCo has crossed a $1 billion valuation after a new investment and employee-secondary transaction, while preparing its next act: Alfie. The Munich company plans to commercially launch the autonomous industrial robot in March 2027 for high-mix, unstructured factory work. RobCo says it now operates in more than a dozen U.S. states, with Austin assembly and a San Francisco lab. Read more →
Robot Safety Gets A Simulation Layer

TL;DR: SafeWorld emerged from stealth with $12.2 million in seed funding to build simulation tools for testing how robots behave around people in rare or dangerous situations. The platform turns incident records, safety standards and robot logs into browser-built scenarios, then runs thousands of variants with reactive human motion. Its pitch is continuous validation before software updates reach physical workplaces. Read more →
A Robot Arm Prepares For Orbit

TL;DR: NASA's Fly Foundational Robots mission is lining up a late-2027 test of a commercial arm that can manipulate tools and walk across spacecraft structures in zero or partial gravity. Built by Rocket Lab Robotics, the arm will pick up and reposition a modular orbital-replacement unit, then support further demonstrations from guest roboticists in low Earth orbit. Read more →
The Microfactory Wants Fewer Handovers

TL;DR: Teradyne has made a strategic investment in Bright Machines and will explore joining its robots and test gear to the company's software-defined microfactories. The proposed setup pairs precision assembly, robotic loading, inspection and autonomous material movement with a unified production-data trail. Bright Machines says it has deployed more than 130 microfactories across over ten countries. Read more →
Drone Delivery Draws A Bigger Map

TL;DR: Wing and Walmart plan to bring drone delivery to Denver and Seattle in 2027, extending the service to nearly 20 U.S. metros and more than 270 Walmart locations. Wing says almost three million customers across Dallas-Fort Worth, Atlanta, Houston and Orlando already have access. The expansion aims to turn the retailer's parking lots into a larger autonomous-delivery network. Read more →
A Wingman Finally Leaves The Ground

TL;DR: Northrop Grumman's Talon Blue completed its first autonomous flight over California's Mojave Desert, taxiing, taking off, maneuvering and landing without a pilot. The internally funded drone, now designated YFQ-48A by the U.S. Air Force, is a modular wingman demonstrator with a weapons bay. Northrop has not said whether its Prism autonomy suite powered the flight. Read more →
