🤖 The Glove Captures The Skill

Good Morning, Roboticists!
Robots are learning our hand skills and getting faster reflexes. The human replacement patch is looking promising.
The Glove Captures The Skill

TL;DR: Origami Robotics introduced S1, a glove that records 20 finger joint angles, pressure and video to capture human manipulation skills. Its joint arrangement matches the company's robot hand, reducing the translation between a human demonstration and robot commands. Origami says mass production has begun, while reliable transfer of contact-rich skills into robot execution remains a development challenge. Read more →
Robot Reflexes Lose The Lag

TL;DR: Bear Robotics launched KINO-2 to turn demonstrations into manipulation skills for its KR1 humanoid. Using NVIDIA tools, Bear reports cutting GR00T inference from 500 to 60 milliseconds. At GTC Berlin, KR1 picks bottles, packs a crate, delivers it and returns with an empty one. The speedup measures internal model processing, with broader task reliability still unquantified. Optimus Leaves The Prototype Line

TL;DR: Tesla says production-standard Optimus units have begun coming off its Fremont lines, moving the humanoid program into an early manufacturing phase. In its third-quarter update, the company paired that milestone with Musk's target of 20,000 robots per week by the end of 2027. Reliability, independent task execution and a slow production ramp remain unresolved challenges. Read more →
Factory Hands Come Before Feet

TL;DR: HD Hyundai Robotics unveiled an upper-body, dual-arm robot at FIX 2026 in Daegu, prioritizing factory manipulation before mobility. Each arm carries up to seven kilograms within a 630-millimeter working radius. An in-house robot foundation model supports environmental understanding and action generation. The company plans to start with kitting and assembly, while wheeled and bipedal mobility remain future stages. Read more →
An iPhone Teaches The Painter

TL;DR: Hirebotics launched a new Smart Teach system at FABTECH that lets operators demonstrate painting paths by moving an iPhone around a workpiece. Its Beacon platform turns recorded positions and orientations into an editable robot program, without CAD or robot code. The phone ships with Cobot Painter; support for welding and cutting systems is planned for later releases. Read more →
Italy Builds A Humanoid Classroom

TL;DR: Generative Bionics plans a 5,000-square-meter training hub in Italy, using AMD infrastructure to prepare GENE.01 humanoids for industrial work. Targeted for late 2027, the site would combine physical tasks, tactile data and digital twins in a training loop. Two further facilities are proposed, but locations, investment, robot counts and computing scale have not yet been disclosed. Read more →
Robot Videos Get Their Grades

TL;DR: NVIDIA released Flora, a model suite that segments robot videos, describes actions and scores execution for training and evaluation. The company reports processing 200,000 video hours daily using 512 GB300 GPUs. Flora already supports its GR00T data pipeline, but that throughput measures annotation, and model cards restrict key releases to noncommercial research and development rather than production use. One Robot Brain Gets Distribution

TL;DR: Teradyne Robotics and Sereact formalized a partnership to scale Cortex-powered Universal Robots systems across retail, logistics and manufacturing. The companies report shipping hundreds of UR robots in dual-arm systems to European customer sites. Their new agreement brings Teradyne's distribution and integrator network behind applications such as returns handling and kitting, with financial terms and exclusivity remaining undisclosed. Humanoids Need A Service Department

TL;DR: Agility Robotics plans a 50,000-square-foot Pittsburgh facility that brings Digit software, AI, deployment and servicing teams together. The expansion adds roughly 35,000 square feet and includes an East Coast service center, with initial employee access expected by year-end. Alongside four additional customers, the investment addresses a practical scaling problem: keeping humanoids useful after they reach a customer's floor. Read more →
Robot Learning Gets Guardrails

TL;DR: University of Illinois researchers combined reinforcement learning with contraction theory to bound tracking errors while robots learn control policies. Their CARL method was tested on wheeled, flapping-wing and six-legged machines after simulation training. The team reports tracking improvements of up to 15 percent over comparison methods, offering measured progress on stability as learned controllers move onto physical hardware. Read more →
