🤖 28 Seconds Rewrites The Tote Run

Good Morning, Roboticists!
Everyone's trying to teach humanoids how to walk. Meanwhile, a robot on wheels just made factory work nearly four times faster. Maybe legs were overrated.
28 Seconds Rewrites The Tote Run

TL;DR: JAKA unveiled the Kargo50 wheeled humanoid and the Zu50 cobot at CIIF in Shanghai, targeting factory material movement and automation. Its smaller Kargo10 reportedly cut a tote-handling cycle from 105 seconds to 28 with onsite engineering support, while the Zu50 carries 50 kilograms across a 2.1-meter reach. JAKA has not released Kargo50 payload or detailed specifications. Read more →
Asimov Lets Coders Take Control

TL;DR: Menlo Research released an open-source Python SDK for Asimov 1, giving developers walking commands, direct joint control, robot-state feedback, and access to cameras, microphones, and speakers. It also announced Asimov Edge, an arbitration layer for switching between applications and human teleoperation. The public SDK is verified; Edge's source was not yet visible, and neither system replaces an emergency stop. Read more →
DeepMind's Robot Team Gets A Home

TL;DR: Former Boston Dynamics CTO Aaron Saunders says Google DeepMind is building a Cambridge, Massachusetts-area robotics lab for the hardware team he has grown since joining in 2025. The announcement is a recruitment signal for machinists, engineers, and researchers, not a product reveal: DeepMind disclosed no site, budget, robot, or opening date, promising only more news in 2027. Three Bodies Teach A New Brain

TL;DR: Shanghai-based Archon Robotics debuted its Whole-Body Intelligence approach on an AGIBOT A3, Booster T2, and modified Unitree G1s. Its S1 layer handles task understanding while S0 coordinates movement, stabilization, and execution. The video says normal-speed demonstrations are autonomous, but its explanatory and corrective-data segments are teleoperated; it offers no success rates, intervention data, or unseen-task results. Unitree Says GPT-6 Changes The Clock

TL;DR: At CIIF in Shanghai, Unitree founder Wang Xingxing said GPT-6 performed "very, very good" across multiple robots and tasks, leading him to see an embodied-AI tipping point within one or two years. He supplied no robot identities, task definitions, model configuration, or success data. Wang still acknowledged that generalization and efficiency stand between factory pilots and large-scale deployment. Read more →
DeepSeek Puts Robot AI At $400M

TL;DR: DeepSeek reportedly plans to lead a seed round of tens of millions of dollars for Winverse AI, valuing the stealth robot-intelligence startup at roughly $400 million after investment. Founder Han Hu previously led Tencent's vision-language and embodied-model teams. The deal remains unfinished, and neither company has described a product, technical architecture, joint model work, or deployment plan. Read more →
Your Old Phone Has Legs

TL;DR: UCLA's RoMeLa team built PhoneBot, a 48.3-centimeter, 1.8-kilogram biped that uses an old Android phone as its vision system, motion sensor, interface, and neural-network computer. The 13-servo robot can walk, follow a person, and stand up after falling. Four phones, including $50-$80 prepaid models, ran core functions; speech and language still rely on a nearby laptop. Hunter WOLF Has To Prove It

TL;DR: BLADE's Hunter WOLF unmanned ground vehicle advanced to the GroundBreaker 1 Phase II demonstration after a government review. The live test will run October 19-23 at Camp Grafton, North Dakota, examining maturity, operational readiness, and interoperability. BLADE positions it for logistics, reconnaissance, casualty evacuation, and communications, but the milestone is a demonstration selection, not a production order or procurement contract. Read more →
Techman Cobots Break The Vendor Wall

TL;DR: Wandelbots added Techman's TM AI Cobots to NOVA 26.7, letting users develop, simulate, validate, and deploy applications in a vendor-independent environment. Support covers TM5S, TM12S, TM25S, TM30S, and TM30SC, with virtual models and NVIDIA Omniverse assets included. The partnership makes switching robot hardware easier, but it says nothing yet about cycle-time gains or production outcomes in customer factories. Read more →
Buildings Get Their Robot Operating System

TL;DR: SoftBank Robotics Singapore and SJ Integrated Solutions signed an MOU to pilot service robots in Singapore buildings, including SJ Campus, while developing software that connects robot fleets to facilities workflows, lifts, doors, and access control. The partners will measure operations against baselines before commercializing the platform across APAC and beyond. It is a pilot-and-software plan, not a proven buildingwide deployment. Read more →
