🤖 Mini Robots Target Alzheimer’s

Plus: Snake Robot Enters Fukushima, Carbon Robotics Gets RFK Boost

Good Morning, Roboticists!

Robotics is expanding simultaneously inward and outward.

Mini Robots Target Alzheimer’s

TL;DR: Jacksonville startup MMI has won FDA clearance to begin human trials using microscopic surgical robots to treat Alzheimer’s by clearing lymphatic drainage pathways in the neck. Backed by $220 million in funding, the company plans to test the procedure on 15 patients, aiming to prove safety and potentially secure broader approval by 2027.

22-Meter Snake Robot Enters Fukushima

TL;DR: TEPCO unveiled a 22-meter, 4.6-ton snake-like robotic arm built to navigate narrow, high-radiation passages inside the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. Equipped with cameras for inspection and data collection, the flexible robot will support a new debris-removal trial later this year, tackling melted fuel in areas too dangerous for humans to enter.

Carbon Robotics Gets RFK Boost

TL;DR: Seattle-based Carbon Robotics received renewed praise from U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who highlighted its AI-powered LaserWeeder on The Joe Rogan Experience as a pesticide-free farming solution. Founded in 2018, the $177 million–backed startup builds robots that use lasers to kill weeds, now deployed on hundreds of farms across 15 countries.

Samsung Targets AI-Run Factories by 2030

TL;DR: Samsung Electronics announced it will convert its domestic and overseas production plants into AI-powered autonomous factories by 2030. The plan includes using digital twin simulations across production, deploying AI agents for quality and logistics management, and gradually introducing humanoid robots to manufacturing lines to improve productivity, safety, and operational efficiency.

Qualcomm Targets Robotics Growth

TL;DR: Speaking at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said robotics could become a meaningful revenue driver for the company within two years. After launching its Dragonwing robotics processor in January, Qualcomm is positioning itself to supply chips for industrial and humanoid robots, aiming to expand beyond its core smartphone business.

Xiaomi Tests Humanoids in Car Factory

TL;DR: Xiaomi claims its self-developed humanoid robots completed three hours of autonomous work in its car plant, handling assembly tasks like tightening screws with a 90.2% success rate and 76-second production cycles. CEO Lei Jun called it a first step toward large-scale deployment, with plans to roll out significant numbers of robots across Xiaomi factories within five years.

Honor Debuts Dancing Humanoid

TL;DR: At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Honor unveiled a matte-black humanoid robot that danced, moonwalked, and shook hands with CEO George Zhao, positioning it as a future consumer assistant for shopping, inspections, and companionship. The reveal, alongside a concept “Robot Phone,” signals Honor’s push beyond smartphones into physical AI hardware.

Chicago Bans Sidewalk Delivery Robots

TL;DR: Chicago’s city council approved a ban on commercial autonomous delivery robots operating on public sidewalks, citing safety and accessibility concerns. Officials responded to complaints that the small wheeled robots obstructed pedestrians and posed challenges for people with disabilities, marking one of the strongest local regulatory actions against urban last-mile robotics.
