🤖 Precision Has New Hands

Good Morning, Roboticists!
Human knowledge used to live in books. Human skill lived in hands. Robotics is coming for the second archive.
Precision Has New Hands

TL;DR: AGILINK’s OmniHand 3 Ultra showed a robot hand splitting silk thread into 16 strands, threading a needle, and stitching delicate Suzhou embroidery. The human-hand-size, 630-gram hand packs 21 active degrees of freedom and visual-tactile fingertips. Its direct-drive design is built for more than spectacle: teleoperation data and reinforcement learning train it for precise real-world manipulation. Read more →
Construction Robots Team Up

TL;DR: University of Stuttgart researchers have won two €4 million EU grants for construction robots designed to work as coordinated crews. SCALAR will pair retrofitted cranes with mobile robots that precisely assemble prefabricated timber, while COBRAS explores identical electric machines building reusable space-frame structures. Both three-year projects begin in November 2026, taking construction automation beyond a single robot on a jobsite. Read more →
The Robot Data Arms Race

TL;DR: Mecka raised a $60 million Series B led by Sequoia Capital, with NVIDIA, Microsoft’s M12, Qualcomm Ventures, and Samsung among new backers. The company builds capture hardware, data infrastructure, and deployment services intended to help robots learn from human activity. Mecka says the funding will expand its global capture fleet, research lab, and commercial integration work. Read more →
KUKA Opens A New Route

TL;DR: TD SYNNEX has struck a distribution agreement with KUKA that brings KUKA autonomous mobile robots to the distributor’s European channel partners. The rollout starts in the UK, France, Spain, and Benelux, backed by technical training and sales support. Collaborative robots, education packages, and industrial software are planned next, widening KUKA’s route into new customer sectors. Read more →
The Autonomous Lab Starts Making Science

TL;DR: Danaher plans to open an AI-powered autonomous laboratory at Abcam in early 2027, linking reagent design, robotic build-and-test work, and feedback into the next experiment. The company says the system could make affinity-reagent discovery up to eight times faster and raise annual output tenfold. Automata provides the device orchestration and robotic automation behind the connected workflow. Read more →
Food Factories Get A Rehearsal Room

TL;DR: Chef Robotics is using NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Omniverse libraries, and cuMotion to build digital twins of food-production cells before installing them on customer lines. The stack lets its robots test different ingredients, containers, tools, and layouts virtually, then plan collision-free movements in production. Chef says customer deployments have delivered up to 60% higher labor productivity at participating plants. Read more →
Floor Work Finds Its Multiplier

TL;DR: Human Friendly Robotics signed a three-year contract worth up to $4 million to put its Tyler tiling robots alongside Flooring Concepts crews across the US Northeast. The agreement covers 15% to 40% of the contractor’s LVT tile work. Tyler handles repetitive placement while installers keep cuts, finishing, and quality control, using a pay-per-square-foot model rather than buying the machines. Read more →
Detroit Gives Spot A Street Test

TL;DR: Bedrock and Boston Dynamics are preparing a supervised downtown Detroit trial for Spot robots fitted with arms, starting as early as next week. The fleet will test building inspection, mapping, security patrols, package handoffs, and litter pickup as small as cigarette butts. After six to eight months of preparation, the partners say successful tests could lead to live deployment. Read more →
